Strategic Competitive and Firm Analyses with Computer Graphics in a Simulation Environment

Charles K. Woodruff

Winthrop University

The author modified the Business Management Laboratory (BML) business game simulation to update a data base in dBASE III Plus and Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet formats. Computer graphics compressed the volume of data for analysis and displayed the primary decision-making data relationships. Student assignments included a competitive analysis (28 graphs) and a firm analysis (18 graphs). A graphics-data base interface imported Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet data directly into Harvard Graphics chart files. Each graph was displayed on a color monitor. Experience using color graphics interfaced with a business game simulation was discussed.

Key Words: business game data base • business game graphics • competitive analysis • firm analysis
